Synopsis

Even after their defeat, remnants of the Taiping Rebellion refuse to give up, keeping China trapped in an endless war. But that's not the worst part—the sheer death toll and despair from the fighting create a toxic miasma that spawns creatures called wangliang. These things possess people and transform them into demons, which kills more people, creates more miasma, and basically turns the whole situation into a downward spiral of horror. To fight back, the immortal Tianyuan deities recruit special soldiers called Hunters. These Hunters work alongside the Guizhan—artificial beings the Tianyuan created specifically to absorb miasma and turn into demons themselves. It's a brutal strategy, but the Guizhan are their best weapon against the wangliang. When a rogue Guizhan loses control and wipes out the Sixth Hunter Unit, the Tianyuan decide to rebuild. They pick three talented Hunters—Ji Ying, Qiao Xun, and Yan Ding—to lead the new team. Then they make a strange call: they also recruit Xiao Ling, the young Guizhan who destroyed the old unit in the first place. It's an awkward fit, and tensions run high, but the team has to learn to work together if they want any shot at stopping the wangliang.
