Synopsis

In a world where humans spontaneously combust near natural fire, civilization has adapted by harvesting a glowing stone from monsters that inhabit the forests—a resource that powers everything. The people who hunt these monsters for their stones are called fire hunters, and it's dangerous work. When a fire hunter saves a village girl named Touko from a monster attack, he doesn't survive the encounter. His dog, Kanata, recovers from his injuries, and Touko's family sends her to the capital to return both the dog and the hunter's weapon to his family. Meanwhile, the hunter's son Koushi and his sister have been taken in by a noble family. As Koushi grows up, he uncovers secrets about the ruling royal family and becomes obsessed with researching a special fire stone his father once discovered. This sets off a desperate race: the government wants to control what Koushi knows, while he's trying to prevent humanity's extinction.
