Synopsis

St. Morwald's Home for Children is a bright, welcoming place for orphaned kids—all those big windows really do make it feel like home. Ten-year-old Aya's got it pretty good there too. She's settled into orphan life, has everyone wrapped around her little finger, and honestly doesn't miss having a regular family. Then one day, everything changes when she gets picked for adoption by a strange couple: Bella Yaga and someone called the Mandrake. Turns out Bella Yaga is an actual witch, and she doesn't want Aya as a daughter—she wants her as help around the house. On top of that, there's one rule Aya absolutely can't break: leave the Mandrake alone. Most kids would've freaked out, but Aya takes it in stride. She figures winning over a cold witch and a grumpy Mandrake is worth the shot, and she's determined to make it work.
