Giant robots called GR have begun appearing worldwide, destroying cities and spreading panic. Japan's next on their hit list. Daisaku Kusama, who runs a diving shop, crosses paths with a mysterious girl named V. She leads him to an ancient ruin on Minami Yonaguni Island in Okinawa, where he makes a contract with an enormous robot called Giant Robo 1—GR1 for short. Now officially a commander for UNISOM, the organization fighting against the GR threat, Daisaku throws himself into battle against GRO, the group controlling the robots. As the conflict unfolds and tensions escalate, Giant Robo forces the world to reckon with what its power really means.
