Synopsis

Kakeru Kurahara used to be a serious runner back in high school, but these days he's shoplifting from convenience stores and running from security guards. One day he literally runs into Haiji Kiyose, a university student who's impressed enough by his speed to offer him a place to stay at Chikusei-sou—a sketchy apartment building where Haiji and a bunch of other students live. Kakeru's broke after losing his deposit money at a mahjong place, so he takes the deal. Then at what's supposed to be a welcome party, Haiji drops the real bomb: the apartment is actually the dorm for Kansei University's Track Club, and he's dead set on entering the Hakone Ekiden, one of Japan's biggest university marathon relay races. The problem? Everyone else living there is basically a non-runner, and nobody signed up to be part of this insane plan. With the race deadline closing in fast, Haiji's got to somehow convince a bunch of unmotivated roommates to train and actually pull this off.
