The four classes—A through D—are ranked by merit, and only the top tier actually gets treated well. Kiyotaka Ayanokouji is stuck in Class D, where the school tosses its problem students. He connects with Suzune Horikita, a loner convinced she doesn't belong there and determined to claw her way up to Class A, and Kikyou Kushida, the friendly class idol who just wants everyone to like her.
