Humanity's industrial boom is cut short by a virus that transforms people into mindless flesh-eating monsters called Kabane. The catch? Their hearts are locked inside iron cages, making them nearly impossible to kill. Ikoma works as a steamsmith in Aragane Station, keeping the trains running, but he's frustrated by humanity's passivity in the face of this threat.
