Synopsis

A farmer found a dead rabbit by a tree stump at the edge of his field—it had broken its neck running into it at full speed. Seeing an easy meal and a quick way to make money, he abandoned his crops to wait for more rabbits to meet the same fate. He waited and waited, but no other rabbits ever came. His fields went to ruin and he ended up with nothing. The whole thing's meant as a cautionary tale about the dangers of idle hope. It's fine to be optimistic about something, but you can't just sit around waiting for it to happen—chances are it won't. It's basically the same idea as "don't count your chickens before they hatch."
