A monkey born from stone finds himself alone on a mountain with no name, no parents, and no one to turn to. Then he meets RinRin, a young female monkey who wants to be his friend. She encourages him to prove his courage, and he wins the title of king—but success goes to his head. After RinRin mentions that humans are actually the smartest creatures around, Goku becomes obsessed with surpassing them. He abandons RinRin to train under a mountain hermit, who finally gives him his name: Son-Goku. Years later, Goku gets thrown in prison for raiding heaven and stealing a celestial fruit. A monk breaks him out, but with a catch—Goku has to travel with him to India as payment. The journey turns out to be just as difficult as anything Goku's faced before.
