Synopsis

After running away from home as kids, Jinta and Suzune were taken in by Motoharu, the village sentinel of Kadono, and his daughter Shirayuki. The village was governed by its shrine maiden, Itsukihime, who kept herself isolated from most people. When Itsukihime died, Shirayuki took her place. Desperate to stay close to Shirayuki, Jinta worked hard for years until he was chosen as the next sentinel. Everything falls apart when Jinta encounters a demon in the forest near the village. During their fight, the demon reveals something about the destined ruler of all demons—then tears off its own arm and attaches it to Jinta, transforming him into an immortal demon. When he comes to, Kadono is burning. Suzune has turned into the very demon from the prophecy, and due to a series of misunderstandings, she kills Shirayuki and vanishes. Jinta can't forgive what Suzune has done. He leaves everything behind to track her down, traveling across Japan through different eras. Along the way, he fights to protect people from dangerous demons, but his real struggle is figuring out what he'll do when he finally catches up to his childhood friend.
