It's 2019 in Japan, right on the cusp of a new era. Then the sky tears open and another world bleeds through—an alternate Japan called Shinkoku Nippon, where everything is literally inverted. This parallel dimension never abandoned its militaristic past and is still living in an eternal Showa period. They come through the rift with giant robots called Garann and a mysterious gas weapon called Genmu that completely outclass anything modern Japan has to offer. Within moments, Shinkoku Nippon's military seizes control of the government and effectively conquers the entire country. And so Japan's new era, Reiwa, begins—under occupation.
