Synopsis

Freshman Kaho Nikaidou comes from money and status, so nobody's ever been anything but nice to her—they're too scared of her family to risk it. Looking for people who'll treat her like a normal person, she moves into a dorm for school. On her first day, she almost walks into traffic and gets rescued by some tall, attractive guy. When she asks his name, he just calls her weird and leaves. That's all it takes—Kaho's instantly attracted to the only person who's ever been mean to her. She runs into him again and finds out his name is Kanade Takahashi, then immediately confesses her feelings. He's into it, but warns her that she might not want to date him once she knows his secret. Turns out Kanade's in fifth grade. Kaho decides that's a dealbreaker and tries to break things off. But the more time she spends with him, the more she cares about him, so she sticks with it. Hatsukoi Monster is basically the story of Kaho experiencing her first real love—messy, awkward, and with someone who happens to be an immature but genuinely sweet ten-year-old.
