If Her Flag Breaks
Kanojo ga Flag wo Oraretara
In visual novels, flags are basically plot triggers—hit a romance flag and you're locked into a character's route, trigger a death flag and someone's done for. That's the concept anyway. Souta Hatate, a high school student, can actually see these flags floating above people's heads. Even crazier, he can knock them down before they activate, which he's used to save lives. Problem is, he survived some accident years ago that killed everyone else around him. Now he's convinced he's cursed—that anyone close to him gets hurt. So he keeps his distance, no friends, no relationships, nothing. Until he transfers schools and takes down another death flag in front of his classmate Nanami Knight Bladefield. She sees what he did and puts two and two together. Instead of running off, she decides to stick with him no matter what happens. From there, Souta starts actually connecting with people again while trying to figure out what his ability really is—and he's got a feeling there's a lot more going on beneath the surface.
