Gen's the guy Japan looks to when kaiju show up—they call him the country's strongest anti-kaiju combatant, and for good reason. On the job, he's completely different from his off-duty self: focused, composed, the type who barks out clear orders and keeps his team in line. But the moment he clocks out? He's basically a overgrown kid. Lazy, unprofessional, childish—he leans into it pretty hard.
Personality-wise, he's crude and doesn't filter much around other people. Petty annoyances set him off way more than they should, and he's constantly bickering with Soshiro Hoshina. Fans often note the stark contrast between battlefield Gen and regular Gen, which is pretty much his whole deal.
