Fergus was one of the few Trainers tough enough to make it through Mewtwo's storm to reach New Island—a group that included Ash, his crew, plus fellow competitors Neesha and Corey. When Mewtwo unveiled itself as the mastermind behind the invitation, Fergus was quick to call it out, insisting that a Pokémon had no business being a Trainer. He went straight into battle with his Gyarados, but Mewtwo's psychic power made short work of it.
Like everyone else stranded on the island, Fergus found his entire team cloned by Mewtwo before he could do much about it.
