Chie's the tomboy of the group—she acts like one of the guys but somehow still manages to come across as feminine. What really defines her is the upbeat, joking energy she brings to investigations, even when things get heavy. She's obsessed with martial arts and kung fu movies, so she was genuinely furious when Yosuke wrecked her precious Trial of the Dragon disc. That incident pretty much sums up her relationship with him: short-tempered and antagonistic, which she happily exploits to score free steak at Junes. Fair warning though—her cooking is legendarily bad, a running joke she shares with Yukiko and Rise.
Her Persona, Tomoe Gozen, is a muscular warrior in yellow (very Game of Death Bruce Lee vibes) wielding a double-bladed naginata. She handles both physical and ice attacks early on, though she phases out of ice magic once Teddie joins the team. After maxing out the Chariot Social Link, Tomoe evolves into Suzuka Gongen.
Chie's Shadow is particularly telling: a masked, dominatrix-like figure with long black hair backed by three pale copies of herself. It's pure jealousy of Yukiko—resentment over her natural talents and a desire to control her. Interestingly, Chie went through tons of design iterations during development, and one version actually influenced Teddie's design.
The Chariot Social Link unfolds through training sessions at Samegawa Floodplain, where Chie and the protagonist grow closer. You learn she creates groups and gives herself titles partly to seem tough and partly because she genuinely wants to protect people. After helping stop bullies in the shopping district—including saving one of her middle school friends—things escalate. The protagonist can either deepen the friendship or pursue something romantic, which determines whether Chie just trains with them afterward or shows up at their place with matching wristbands. That protective resolve she's always had crystallizes Tomoe into Suzuka Gongen.
