Ethan Hondou was a CIA agent and the father of Hidemi and Eisuke Hondou. He's best known for his deep cover operation infiltrating the Black Organization—work that ultimately cost him his life.
People initially pegged him as an actual member of the syndicate, but he was always working undercover for the CIA. When Ethan and Hidemi tried to plant another agent inside the organization, things went sideways. He discovered the Black Organization had bugged her clothes, which meant his daughter was compromised and in serious danger.
To protect Hidemi, Ethan made a brutal choice. He injured her and then took his own life, staging the scene to look like an interrogation gone wrong—like she'd killed him during questioning. It was a sacrifice play that let her survive and maintain her cover.
