A swordsman from the Shingyoto-Ryū school tucked away in the mountains of Kaga. Things got complicated when the government basically ordered the school to assassinate Anotsu Kagehisa during what was supposed to be a merger with the Itto-Ryū. Iriya had feelings for Hisoka, the granddaughter of the school's leader Kensui, which added another layer to the whole mess.
After everything fell apart—the school destroyed, both Hisoka and Kensui dead—Iriya and the surviving students banded together to track down Kagehisa for revenge. He first shows up in Secrets Part I but doesn't make it to the end; Kagehisa kills him in Last Blood Part 4/5.
