Tokugawa Tsunayoshi

The fifth shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate, Tsunayoshi was the third daughter of Iemitsu. She inherited the position after her older sister Ietsuna died, making her one of the rare female rulers in Japan's feudal period.
Early in her reign, Tsunayoshi was considered an effective administrator. But her later years became defined by a series of controversial decisions that damaged her reputation. Most infamously, she earned the unflattering nickname "the Dog Shogun" thanks to increasingly unpopular policies that many saw as misguided overreach. These missteps during her final years as shogun largely overshadow what had been a more competent start to her rule.
