Haruna Sakurada (called Patricia Haruna in the English dub) is Usagi's junior high school teacher. Despite her age, she comes across as surprisingly young and energetic, though she can turn strict when Usagi's laziness and habit of screwing up get too much. She's best known for being hopelessly lovesick and desperate to find a husband—a weakness the Dark Kingdom definitely exploited in the early series.
Like most minor characters in the anime, Haruna gradually fades into the background as the show goes on, essentially disappearing once the Senshi leave middle school for good.
The kanji in her name break down as cherry blossom (sakura), rice field (da), spring (haru), and vegetables (na). Takeuchi apparently liked playing with seasonal wordplay across her works: Haruna shows up briefly in The Cherry Project (an earlier series), where her sister Fuyuna appears in a side story. Fans have noted that other Takeuchi characters follow the same pattern—Natsuna in Codename: Sailor V and Akina in PQ Angels, with the names pulling from the Japanese words for winter, summer, and autumn respectively.
