Torasuke is a young man living during Japan's Meiji era with big ambitions—he wants to work for Kobe Steel because he's convinced that industry is what actually drives society forward. When he approaches Yone Suzuki, the owner of Suzuki & Co. (which would eventually become Kobe Steel), she tells him he's clearly talented, but something's missing. He leaves that conversation pretty confused about what she means.
