Joushima is a doctor in his 40s or 50s who spends his downtime tinkering with cars—especially tuning them. He's the downhill driver for Purple Shadow, teaming up with Kouzou Hoshino. Fans know him as the "God Hand" because of his freakish precision: he can steer and shift with just one hand on the wheel and the other on the stick, controlling every input with surgical accuracy. His driving style is cerebral, closer to Ryousuke Takahashi's methodical approach than pure aggression. He gets a kick out of holding back, showing off his gutter jumps and playing mind games with whoever's chasing him by messing with their racing line.
When Joushima faced Takumi, it felt like racing against Bunta's Impreza. Joushima played cat and mouse at first, deliberately hiding what he was really capable of and trying to mess with Takumi's head—he figured he'd win eventually, no problem. But when he finally committed to his attack, Takumi fought back and took the lead. That's when Joushima realized this kid wasn't backing down. He dropped the games and went all-out, using his signature time attack line to pull ahead. Takumi pushed so hard chasing him that he blew his suspension, limping down the mountain in a crippled car. That should've been a loss—except Joushima hit a wall. Multiple runs had worn him out, and he had to pull over to throw up. The beaten-up Trueno crawled past for a technical win.
After the race, Joushima admitted something that clearly bothered him: Takumi's comeback pressure forced him to put his left hand back on the steering wheel. He'd never had to do that before. Takumi knew it wasn't a fair win, though. Afterward, he asked Joushima for a favor—ride along in his S2000 while he drove the pass again so Takumi could study his technique up close. Joushima agreed and left him with some final pointers.
