Kunikida is one of Kyon's friends from junior high school. He's the quieter type—especially compared to Taniguchi, who does most of the talking whenever they're together. His role in the story is pretty minor, and he doesn't get a ton of dialogue, but he's apparently known Kyon long enough to make some observations. Notably, he's dropped hints that Kyon has a thing for unusual girls, which fans have pointed to as early evidence of Kyon's interest in Haruhi.
