Mikan is Rito's younger sister and basically runs the household while their parents are off working. She's way more mature than her brother—sometimes annoyingly so—and loves to mess with him. She'll joke that they aren't even related just to get a rise out of him, which probably explains why she rarely uses the respectful "-san" or "-chan" when talking to him. That said, she genuinely cares about him more than she lets on. When she got sick with a fever, she actually called him "Onii-chan" to thank him for taking care of her, which was pretty telling. She even misses how they used to hang out together before Lala showed up.
Mikan's weirdly good at reading people. She picks up on everything—Rito's nervous energy around Haruna, Yui's obvious crush on him—and doesn't hesitate to call him out for being a "playboy" with all the girls throwing themselves at him.
She bonds pretty quickly with Golden Darkness, probably because Darkness seems closer to her age than anyone else Rito's surrounded by. It's one of her more genuine attachments.
