Canon shows up in episode 11 as one of the Human Army's top Fafner pilots, alongside Michio. She's skilled beyond her years—a product of growing up in a active war zone. Her hometown of Dublin was completely destroyed four years before the series starts, and her entire family was killed in the attack. Michio, a Human Army soldier, took her in and raised her to be a soldier. The constant fighting has left her emotionally shut down; she just follows orders and doesn't really make her own choices or want anything.
Arriving at Tatsumiya is jarring for her. The peaceful life there doesn't compute at first—she's genuinely offended and confused by it. But gradually she starts to get it, and eventually she actually wants to be part of that world. She bonds with Sakura and the other pilots, and seems to develop feelings for Kazuki. Living with Youko helps her open up and heal in ways she didn't expect. What makes Canon work is that she could've been a one-note tragic soldier character, but she isn't. She's proof that even after thirty years of constant warfare, humans can remember what peace looks like and choose it.
She pilots the Babylon Fafner (a different model from the Nothung-types used by the Tatsumiya crew) and briefly takes control of the Mark Drei as well.
