Koto is a black rabbit who was drawn to life by the monk Myoue. She developed feelings for him, and Bodhisattva struck a deal with her: she could take human form, but only as long as her love remained unrequited. The moment Myoue returned her feelings, the condition would be forfeit.
Of course, he did fall in love with her. They ended up together anyway, got married, and even adopted three kids. But the deal came back to haunt her—literally. Koto started having nightmares about the City Through the Looking Glass being destroyed, a consequence of breaking her promise to Bodhisattva. Eventually, she and Myoue had no choice but to leave, abandoning their life there and the children they'd raised. It's a tragic ending: she got what she wanted but lost everything in the process.
