He's the fourth prince of the Kou Empire and Hakuei's younger brother. Hakuei raised him to be self-sufficient, which is why he's picked up serious cooking skills—something he actually enjoys. Since Hakuei took on their mother's role in the family, she's become his only real family left, and he's deeply protective of her because of it.
