Sora advanced to the next round of Battle Bladers by default when an odd number of contestants meant someone had to get a free pass. In the manga, he comes across as pretty indifferent about the whole thing.
The anime tells a different story. Sora's basically obsessed with Ginga—he watched him compete in Battle Bladers and was blown away. When Ginga won, Sora jumped up to cheer, and in that moment he felt like they shared something, especially since he was the only other person standing. That connection stuck with him, and he's spent ever since trying to become a blader just like his idol.
But here's Sora's problem: he's genuinely terrible at winning. No matter how hard he trains or how powerful his attacks are supposed to be, his Cyber just kind of. drops. When he attempts Ginga's signature Shooting Star Attack, everyone watches in shock as his blade falls limply to the ground. Yeah, it sucks that people laugh, and it obviously gets to him, but Sora bounces back quickly and keeps grinding. He just can't catch a break with his own special move.
Personality-wise, Sora's a relaxed kid who loves sleeping in—same vibe as Ginga, really. That said, he's got a short fuse over stupid stuff and won't hesitate to be rude to anyone blocking his path. During Battle Bladers he literally pushed Kenta's opponent and told them to get lost.
For a while, Sora didn't grasp what Ginga meant by Blader Spirit. Kenta ended up helping him understand by suggesting he draw inspiration from the stars, though Sora still leans on his mental image of Ginga's spirit to guide him. Kenta found Sora's determination genuinely inspiring.
When Sora launches, he jumps into the air and shoots his blade down from above, letting gravity give it extra momentum.
