Iwabee is a Konohagakure genin and member of Team 5, alongside Metal Lee and Denki Kaminarimon.
He was always naturally gifted at practical ninja skills—top marks in every physical class, no question. The problem was everything else. Iwabee hated academic coursework that had nothing to do with actual combat, and it tanked his written exams consistently enough that he flunked the graduation exam twice. By the time he finally made genin, most of his classmates had already moved on without him, which stung. He blamed the whole system for demanding both book smarts and physical ability, seeing it as unfair.
For a while there, he became pretty bitter about it. He started skipping classes regularly and could be harsh or even confrontational with younger students—the typical frustrated kid acting out.
He watched the Seventh Hokage's inauguration ceremony with the rest of the village, and before all that Academy trouble started, he'd been just another kid dreaming of becoming a powerful, famous ninja like everyone else.
