Soujoubou rules Kurama Mountain as the third generation leader of the tengu—one of the oldest and most powerful among them. He's responsible for keeping the peace and protecting everyone who lives there, which is basically the entire tengu clan.
The problem is his health. He's got some mysterious illness that nobody can figure out, and it's creating real tension in the ranks. Some tengu are genuinely trying to find a cure and help him recover. Others, though, see it as an opportunity—they're pushing to speed up the process of naming his successor and are already jockeying for the position of fourth generation leader. It's the kind of power struggle that tends to happen when leadership is uncertain.
