Bruno was a genetically modified trainee under Hydra's program, alongside several other cadets including Adi, Makoto, and Chloe. When those three realized they weren't going to be trained as heroes—especially after being forced to fight the Avengers on a mission—they bailed on Hydra. Bruno, though, was initially convinced that villainy was their true calling and stuck with the organization longer than the others.
He eventually came around and defected as well, rejoining Adi, Makoto, and Chloe to become part of the Future Avengers.
