Denjirou is Malachi's grandfather, a character who appeared in the episode "Carrying On!" He and his grandson run the Pidgey Express—a delivery service that uses trained Pidgey to carry packages and newspapers to nearby islands that don't have ferry access. Denjirou founded the business over fifty years ago and has spent his life training and caring for the Pidgey, flying around in a mini-blimp to teach them delivery routes and staying up on stormy nights until every bird made it home safely.
That dedication came at a cost. He missed his own son's wedding and wasn't there when Malachi was born—sacrifices he came to regret. By the time of the episode, he'd decided to retire and shut down the business so his grandson wouldn't repeat his mistakes.
Everything changed during a Team Rocket raid. The gang literally snatched Pidgey out of the sky, but Malachi stepped up and recovered them all for his grandfather. Impressed by his grandson's courage and commitment, Denjirou reconsidered retirement. Instead, he helped Malachi become a professional Pidgey Express operator, finally giving the kid the chance to follow in his footsteps without sacrificing his own life.
