Ratchman leads the Aryan Socialist Union, a neo-Nazi outfit based in the U.S. He got tapped by Lord Alfred—a former SS officer hiding out in South America—to pull a painting called "The Twelve Knights led by Brunhilda" from the wreck of U-1324, a German Type IX-C U-boat that went down on March 24, 1945, sunk by the U.S. Navy just before it could reach Batavia (Jakarta). The catch? Lord Alfred dangled financial backing for the organization as incentive. Though here's the kicker: he gave the same job to the Lagoon Company at the same time, basically just to see how Ratchman would measure up.
Ratchman's main talent is giving big, emotional speeches that get his men fired up—because honestly, that's about all he's got going for him. He's petty, cowardly, and has zero sense of strategy or foresight. This became obvious when his whole operation fell apart: Rock and Revy hit the U-boat first, grabbed the painting, and then Dutch and Revy straight-up raided Ratchman's ship while his crew was too drunk celebrating to mount any real defense. It was a massacre.
After his men got wiped out, Ratchman called Lord Alfred looking for answers. That's when he found out the whole thing was just a test—and he'd failed spectacularly. Lord Alfred basically told him he and his organization were pathetic Nazis.
Ratchman didn't last much longer. When Revy handed him one of her guns, he tried to off himself. Instead, he pointed it at Dutch—only to find the chamber was empty.
