In Unlimited, Takeru wakes up to find his town destroyed, with a massive robot sitting on the rubble of Sumika's house. Convinced it's all a dream, he just rolls with it and wanders around enjoying what he thinks is a lucid dream—piloting giant mecha included.
As things unfold, Takeru gradually comes to understand the different worldviews held by those around him and learns harsh truths about reality. He matures through these experiences, willing to sacrifice almost everything to reach his goals, losing people and things that matter to him but also finding new reasons to keep going. No matter what, he holds onto the belief that the future he's fighting for will be worth it for humanity.
What his story really amounts to in the end remains to be seen.
