Will lives near Gianas and has never been happy with his own surname—he blames his alcoholic father for that particular mistake. He's the type to nurse people back to health; he did this for Renton when the guy was making his way back to the Gekko. Friendly and talkative, but genuinely thoughtful about it, Will prefers working with nature instead of fighting it. He's got this massive vegetable garden that's basically a jungle—the grass grows tall alongside the crops, making it almost impossible to move through. Somehow it produces great vegetables anyway, even after he dismantled several enormous pile bunkers that had been controlling tectonic activity in the area.
Will lives with his wife Martha, who was an engineer before she contracted Desperation Disease. He still talks to her regularly, even though she can't respond. But here's the thing about Will: he doesn't see her condition as tragic. In his view, her lack of despair means she isn't actually suffering from the disease the way others do. It's a pretty distinctive philosophy. He believes humans should live on whatever energy nature provides us and stop trying to exceed that.
