Sol was a Zeon soldier stationed at a remote base who got caught up in one of the franchise's more memorable failed operations. When White Base approached, Sol's fellow soldier Cuaran hatched a plan to take down the Gundam by planting bombs on it. Sol joined the team, and they actually managed to attach six bombs to the mobile suit—a rare win for Zeon foot soldiers. But then Amuro just. removed all of them. The whole thing fell apart.
After that, Sol and the others drove past in civilian clothes and wished Amuro and the White Base crew good luck. Fans often note this as one of the more humanizing moments in the original series, showing that even regular soldiers could recognize when they were outmatched and move on.
