A high school student in the Mihoshi Academy Pilot Training course who gets mistaken for a girl constantly—seriously, all the time—thanks to his delicate features and long hair. He's earned the nickname "Hime" (Princess) because of it, though fans note he inherited his appearance from his mother, Miyo. Otherwise he's a pretty typical teenage guy, just quieter and more withdrawn than most.
He comes from a prestigious Kabuki family, but he's always had his head in the clouds—literally. His obsession with flying clashes hard with his father's expectations, to the point that his dad disowned him. Being stuck on the Macross Frontier, where there's no real sky to speak of, drives him crazy.
Everything changes when he gets to pilot the VF-25 Messiah variable fighter. His natural talent in the cockpit catches Ozma Lee's eye, and he's soon recruited as a candidate for the S.M.S. Skull Squadron. From there, he develops genuine emotional connections with both Sheryl and Ranka as the series progresses. In the final episode, he tells them both they're his wings—which is sweet, but it never actually resolves the love triangle. The series just leaves it hanging, which has kept fans debating it for years.
