Kamon Nandaba is Naota's dad and a former pop culture journalist turned freelance writer who runs his own trashy tabloid called "Kamon-Mabase"—a pun that basically nobody needs explained twice. At 47, he's basically a walking reference machine, constantly dropping allusions to EVA, Lupin III, Hamtaro, Mobile Suit Gundam, MTV, and basically anything else from his glory days. He's the kind of guy who never really grew up.
He's got a thing for Haruko, though she couldn't care less about him as anything other than a convenient N.O. Portal. Like the rest of the adults in FLCL, Kamon is childish—often more so than you'd expect from someone his age—but he occasionally surprises you with moments of genuine depth and seriousness that actually land.
