Shinagawa is the main character, known as "Yankee-kun" for his short temper and delinquent reputation. He's the type who just wants to be left alone and had zero interest in his high school life—until Adachi came along and wouldn't leave him alone. She kept bugging him about going on a school field trip, and he was annoyed until he found out about her past and her determination to become class representative. Turns out he's actually honorable and protective of people he cares about, even if he doesn't always show it. Math is his strongest subject.
His dynamic with Hana Adachi is complicated. He respects how she helps people no matter what, but her complete lack of common sense and tendency to drag him into her crazy schemes drive him up the wall. He's pretty sure she has a crush on him, but whenever he tries to ask, she either dodges the question or plays dumb about it.
Here's the thing nobody expected: Shinagawa only decided to go to Mon Shiro High because he saw a beautiful girl at his entrance exam. That girl turned out to be Hana without her glasses and with her hair down. Despite constantly bickering with her, he'd do anything to avoid actually hurting or upsetting her. He even keeps his feelings hidden just so she won't get upset—which is pretty telling considering who he actually likes.
