M1, M2, and M3—real names Yen, Kai, and Ryo—are members of Team Ichigaki. Trained since childhood by their master Mitamura in martial arts, their lives took a dark turn when Dr. Ichigaki poisoned him. Desperate to save Mitamura's life, the three surrendered their freedom in exchange for his healing. Ichigaki then implanted Blood-Slaver Nodes on their backs—devices that could only be removed by killing their host—and seized complete control over them. Their bodies became stronger than ever, but their souls remained trapped inside, conscious but powerless, yearning for freedom even if it meant death.
Despite their imprisonment, their souls retained some ability. They managed to reach out to Kuwabara in his dreams and explain their tragic history. The three are genuinely skilled fighters who work together with impressive coordination. M2 and M3 specialize in invisible attacks that require spirit training to perceive, while M1 uses visible techniques to distract and cover for his teammates, keeping opponents constantly defensive.
During the Dark Tournament preliminaries, they swept their matches without losing once. The day after, while Kuwabara slept, they sent him that fateful dream message. In the main tournament, Team Ichigaki faced off against Yusuke, Kuwabara, and Genkai. At first, neither Yusuke nor Kuwabara could even see their opponents' attacks, but Yusuke's rage at Ichigaki's cruelty unlocked his ability to counter them. The real turning point came when Genkai used a special technique that gave their souls the power to choose their own nature. All three removed the Nodes themselves—without dying—and Team Urameshi won. Afterward, their master forgave them completely, though the three initially felt unworthy. Kai even offered to replace Kuwabara on Team Urameshi as repayment, but tournament rules prevented it. All three and Mitamura survived the tournament.
