A black dragon who was one of Diaria's earliest companions—he actually sought him out for house-hunting advice just like Letty did. But that's where the similarities end. Varney's a showman and a troublemaker who insists on being called the Mighty Black Dragon, some legendary harbinger of destruction or whatever. He really leans into the whole "fearsome legend" thing.
His voice actor, Kenjiro Tsuda, is basically perfect casting for the bit—Varney talks like a mobster, and Tsuda's previous roles were both gangster characters (Overhaul in My Hero Academia and Tatsu in The Way of the Household Husband), so there's a fun meta joke baked right into the casting.
Varney shows up in episodes 8 and 9.
