Krul Tepes is the third progenitor and vampire queen of Japan—basically royalty in the vampire hierarchy, which means she's absurdly powerful compared to almost anyone else around. She turned Mikaela Hyakuya into a vampire, and unlike most vampires, she's the one who shows him genuine kindness, hugging him and treating him gently despite their relationship being built on dependency (she gives him her blood to drink instead of human blood, which ties him to her).
Like virtually all vampires, she treats humans as livestock—nothing more than greedy, expendable animals. When Ferid Bathory massacres the orphans she'd been protecting and breeding in Sanguinem, her rage isn't about the kids themselves; it's because he wounded one of the seraph and let another escape. The actual children meant nothing to her. But Mikaela? That's different. She was willing to save his life by turning him into a vampire, even against his will, though her motives were probably self-serving from the start.
Despite all that, Mika became genuinely important to her, and she claims to like both him and his adoptive brother Yuichiro. Whether that's real affection or just calculated use of the seraph for her own purposes remains unclear. What's certain is that she trusts Mika in a way she doesn't trust other vampires, and only the two of them seem to know what Krul's actually planning.
