Maxima started out as just another Canadian soldier living an unremarkable life—until his fellow soldier Rocky was killed in a NESTS-related incident. That's when everything changed. Determined to get revenge, Maxima made the brutal decision to abandon his old identity entirely. He had his face surgically altered and his name erased, destroying any trace of his former self to go undercover.
To successfully infiltrate NESTS without being recognized, he underwent extensive cybernetic modifications courtesy of Dr. Makishima, which is where the codename "Maxima" actually comes from. Once inside the organization, he was paired with K' as his partner. The partnership lasted until K' discovered his own clone, Krizalid, and became disillusioned with everything NESTS stood for. That shared disgust was enough to turn them both against the cartel, and they defected together.
