Matoriv used to roll with Avan's crew back in the day, and he's got history with Hadlar—they've faced off before. He's basically the older brother type to Masopho, looking out for him. Later on, he ended up taking Popp under his wing as his magic mentor, which became pretty significant for Popp's development as a mage.
