Ichijou Masaki is a Third High School student and heir to the Ichijou family, one of the Ten Master Clans. He first appears in the third light novel volume as a key competitor in the Nine Schools Competition's Newcomers' Division. Even before actually meeting Tatsuya Shiba, Masaki had already developed a competitive edge against him—partly because Tatsuya was just a technician at the event, and partly because Masaki found himself drawn to Tatsuya's sister, Miyuki.
People tend to describe Masaki as strikingly handsome in that classical, warrior-like way. At 180cm with broad shoulders, a lean waist, and long legs, he's got the kind of looks that tends to turn heads. His classmates definitely notice—he's popular with girls. Yet he rarely seems to care much about that attention.
Interestingly, Miyuki is one of the few people who actually gets under his skin. Despite being comfortable moving through elite social circles, he becomes visibly flustered around her. Her impeccable manners and beauty manage to rattle him in a way almost nothing else does.
In a fight, though, Masaki is a different person—cool and analytical, even when things go sideways. His rivalry with Tatsuya brings out his competitive fire, but it never clouds his judgment. As someone from one of the Ten Master Clans, he also carries a real sense of duty to support the Magic Association whenever they need him.
