A brilliant researcher and doctor at a local university, Ryouta's uncle basically refused to leave campus—he wouldn't set foot on any kind of transportation, which meant turning down pretty much every invitation that required him to travel. That changed when he watched a magician perform. Impressed enough to reconsider his usual stance, he agreed to help Ryouta by analyzing the magician's compound and developing the necessary medicine for their work.
As it turned out, he and Chisato went to the same university back in the day and were actually classmates.
