Arata Sagimori is a second-year student at Achiga Girls' Academy in Nara Prefecture and one of the main characters in the "Saki: Achiga-hen episode of side-A" spin-off manga. She grew up in the area as a childhood friend of Kuro and Yuu Matsumi—her family runs a bowling alley locally. As a kid, she played mahjong casually with adults at the Matsumi inn, but quit after elementary school started. The real reason she stepped away from the game was because she idolized Harue Akado, and when Harue gave up mahjong following Achiga's loss at nationals, Arata lost interest too. She only rejoined the school's mahjong club after Kuro told her that Harue had picked the game back up.
Because she's the most level-headed member of the team, Harue ended up appointing Arata as president of the mahjong club.
