Maho Yumeno is a second-year middle schooler at Takatoobara Middle School in Nagano Prefecture. She used to compete alongside Nodoka Haramura and Yuuki Kataoka in her prefecture's middle school mahjong tournament, and she's basically a huge Nodoka fan—so much so that watching her play inspired Maho to start competing in online mahjong under the handle "Super Mahocchi."
You'll almost always spot her hanging around with her older teammate Hiroko Murohashi. The two are so close that Yuuki dubbed them the "Muro-Maho Combination," and the nickname kind of stuck.
In the anime, Maho and Hiroko show up to watch Nodoka's final match at Nagano's prefectural high school tournament. The manga goes a different route though—instead, Hisa Takei invites both of them to train at Kiyosumi High School ahead of nationals.
