Jowy didn't grow up as an Atreides or Blight—he was born to Rosa, who later married Marcel Atreides and brought him into the wealthy Highland aristocracy. His stepfather and stepbrother treated him poorly, and he never fit in with the other nobility, mostly because of his family's wealth. The only people who actually liked him were his childhood friends Riou and Nanami.
When he and Riou enlisted in the Highland Army's Unicorn Brigade, things went south fast. After the unit was decimated by Luca Blight, Jowy managed to escape to Jowston. Witnessing Luca's raw power firsthand convinced him that the only way forward was to take Highland down from the inside. To get close enough to do it, he murdered Anabelle to earn Luca's trust.
Over time, Jowy climbed the ranks, and his position solidified when he married Jillia. But once Luca died, things got complicated. The Black Sword rune he'd inherited started draining his life force—he became dependent on it just to keep the Beast Rune under control. It was a losing battle. When his forces finally fell and he lost L'Renouille, Jowy disappeared without explanation. He eventually settled into traveling the world alongside Nanami and Riou, his oldest friends.
