That long abroad left him pretty clueless about Japanese customs, so he showed up having crammed from guidebooks—which, predictably, didn't always work out. Most memorably, he threw in a full dogeza during his first-day introduction, which definitely made an impression, even if it wasn't quite what he'd intended.
